Artist statement: “(DE)sire is a anniversary collection of photos gathered over the last 10 years. This collection will cover many aspects of our desire in a hopefully more full spectrum than expressed in typical romance or erotica. The show’s namesake is an anagram of the aforementioned full spectrum, starting with Devotion, followed by (de)vour, satiation, infatuation, relationship and Emancipation. This project is only deliberate in the sense that I have stayed dedicated to pursuing my desires, learning about how they have changed over the years, and studied those changes in others desire, not just my own, as well as in works of art, literature, and socioeconomics to inform my photographic journey over the last decade plus. Everything from my shifting and growing relationship with queerness, to witnessing the seeds of desire planted from generations past finally bearing fruit of equity (not in actionable change from leaders, but in solidarity to oppose and foster dissent amongst community) will be showcased. I hope this collection is enjoyable and does similar for other’s journeys in revealing their own desires across multiple facets of their lives.”
Missed the opening night reception? This show will be on view in Nevermore’s front gallery room through Monday, November 23.
