“Snaxidermy": A Solo Gallery Show by GLTNI at Nevermore
Come FEAST your eyes on Nevermore’s fabulous new gallery show!
“Snaxidermy” is a solo show featuring the sculptural artworks of Lilith Lee, also known as GLTNi. This show will showcase various hand-sculpted "food demons" that the artist has seen, captured, and preserved. They’re always ethically sourced, of course!
Come visit Nevermore, right next door to Unkindness Art, for the opening night event on Friday June 26th from 5PM- 8PM. Can’t make it to the gallery opening? This show will run until July 27, so you can stop by to see it anytime during Nevermore’s regular open hours (Fri-Mon).
Animal Crossing Flash Day w/ RACC
Come join us at Unkindness Art on Saturday, July 25 from 11am-7pm for a very special Animal Crossing-themed get-what-you-get flash day! And while you're waiting your turn to get tattooed, why not visit with some super cute adoptable dogs?? Volunteers from Richmond Animal Care & Control (RACC), our city shelter, will be joining us here on site with a few lucky pups looking for homes--maybe in addition to a tattoo, you'll end up going home with a new little villager for your island, too?!
We're breaking out the gacha machine and giving you a chance to pull for your fave villager (and lots more fun Animal Crossing-themed designs), drawn by one of our NINE participating tattooers! That's nearly FIFTY designs to choose from in all, wow!

All tattoos are flat rate get-what-you-get at $160. Not satisfied with your pull? Re-rolls are $10 each, with a max of three re-rolls allowed. If you’re still not vibing with your options after three tries, you can pick out any design you like for $200 flat.
Any artist can tattoo any of the designs, but if you want to get tattooed by a particular artist you can pre-book a time slot with them on a first come, first served basis via the booking menu below! If you don’t have an artist preference, feel free to pick any open slot that works for you. And if all slots are filled ahead of time, you can take your chances as a walk-in client on the day of the event—but we can’t guarantee we’ll be able to tattoo you in that case, sorry!

Tattoos are available as linework only, black & gray shading only, or color—all options start at a FLAT PRICE of $160
This event is get-what-you-get using a gacha machine!
If you want to re-try for a different design, each extra pull from the gacha machine is $10; you get 3 re-pulls max and if you’re still not satisfied with your pulls at that point, you can pick your design of choice for a flat price of $200
Payment for your tattoo will be collected BEFORE the tattoo at this event
Please bring cash to pay for your tattoo if possible—be advised that if paying with card, there is a 3% credit card surcharge on the total cost of the tattoo

Drawn to Life: A Crash Course on Life Drawing
This July we’re switching things up a bit from our usual monthly figure drawing class:
Are you a newer or more casual artist who’d like to learn more about how to draw from life or from reference? Maybe you’ve never participated in a figure drawing class with a human model before, but you’re interested in learning more? If so, this one is for you!
This crash course will provide you with basic information about drawing from life, whether it be from still-life arrangement (i.e. fruit in a basket, or a vase of flowers), or drawing the human figure, its anatomy and movement. Together, we’ll break down how to start drawing from life, specific techniques for how to more realistically render people or items in front of you, and you’ll have the opportunity to draw a live clothed model. By the end of the evening, you’ll be able to see how life drawing can positively impact how you draw and improve your skills!
This session will be broken into two segments: the first half will be a presentation by your host, followed by a short break, and then a guided figure drawing session with our lovely model Teddi Baerbach to finish the evening.
Note: this is an all-ages event!

Unkindness Art’s sister store Nevermore presents “Violettomania: Drawing the Magic & Mythos of the Color Purple,” a solo gallery exhibit by local artist Brit Austin.
Venture into Brit’s violet visions of fantasy, folklore, and magic as they take us on a journey exploring the history of the color purple!
“Violettomania” opens Friday, July 31st, from 5-9pm, and runs through Monday, August 24. Join us on opening night for a free, all-ages evening with snacks provided and purple attire highly encouraged.

Fursuit Figure Drawing
This August, in honor of the upcoming Furry Tattoo Weekend event we’re hosting right here at Unkindness Art, we’re switching things up again from our usual monthly figure drawing class: join us on Wednesday, August 26 for Fursuit Figure Drawing, where our full-suited furry models will strike their best poses for you! You don’t have to be a furry to participate; all are welcome and this is an all-ages session that’s sure to be super fun!
For this session we’ll plan to have 2-3 models in varying suits (we’ll post our specific models here soon!). This will be a “short pose” session, best for quick gestural sketch practice.

Unkindness Art is pleased to present an ongoing nude figure drawing series, open to any and all artists (18 and over) who want a space to hone their life drawing skills.
Events take place on the last Wednesday of every month from 7:45-10pm; our September session is on Wednesday, September 30 here at Unkindness Art (2923 North Avenue, Richmond VA 23222).
This month we’ll be hosting a short pose session featuring a single model. These sessions are perfect for artists who want to work on creating a larger volume of fast, gestural sketches in a variety of poses, and would be ideal for sketching mediums such as pen/pencil, etc.

It’s time once again for Unkindness Art’s semi-annual maker’s market, featuring more than 30 local artists, makers, and vendors of all types!
This market event will take place on Sunday, May 24 from 12-6pm - here’s hoping the weather will be GORGEOUS, because this one will be indoor/outdoor!
You’ll find 30+ vendors selling all manner of fine art, prints, zines, jewelry, clothing/accessories, oddities, florals, botanical/skincare products, home goods/decor, and so much more. Plus, the fine folks from The Exit Plan will be on hand serving ice cold, delicious matcha beverages!
This is an all ages event with free admission.

Tattoos are available as linework only, black & gray shading only, or color—all options are THE SAME PRICE for this event, pricing is based on whether you want to pick your design or get what you get!
If you want to re-try, each extra pull from the gacha machine is $5
Payment for your tattoo will be collected BEFORE the tattoo at this event

18+ Figure Drawing: February Session
Unkindness Art is pleased to present an ongoing nude figure drawing series, open to any and all artists (18 and over) who want a space to hone their life drawing skills.
Events take place on the last Wednesday of every month from 7:45-10pm; our February session is on Wednesday, February 25 here at Unkindness Art (2923 North Avenue, Richmond VA 23222).
This month we’ll be hosting a short pose session featuring a single model. This is a perfect opportunity to practice creating quick sketches and gestural drawings and would be best suited for mediums such as pencil/pen.
Important event rules and info are as follows (PLEASE READ CAREFULLY):
The only way to reserve a spot at this session is to purchase your ticket ahead of time via this page; we do not have guaranteed tickets at the door and space is limited
Tickets are NONREFUNDABLE; ticket sales go towards paying the session model(s)
You must show current valid photo ID upon arrival (these events are 18+ only!)
The drawing session will start promptly at 8:00 pm and we are not able to allow late entry once the event has started—please arrive early!!
All attendees will be asked to sign an agreement upon entry abiding by certain privacy and etiquette rules for the safety and security of the models—this includes NO PHONE USAGE AND ABSOLUTELY NO PHOTOS DURING THE EVENT
We will provide seating for all attendees; attendees will need to provide their own drawing/painting medium, easels if applicable, bring their own iPads, etc.
Light drinks/refreshments will be provided
Although this is a paid job for the model, cash tips are always appreciated!

Note: off-street parking is available in the lot behind our building on Brookland Park Blvd (the one with the raven mural!) on a first come, first served basis. If this lot is full, please park on the street rather than in any other private off-street lots or you may be towed.

Nevermore Presents: "Sew Your Heart Out" Gallery Show
Our sister store, Nevermore Gothic Boutique & Micro-Gallery, cordially invites you to the “Sew Your Heart Out” Gallery Show, featuring an opening night reception from 7-9pm on Friday, February 20.
Get up close and personal with more than 20 original clothing designs that walked the runway on the evening of Valentine’s Day during Nevermore’s first anniversary fashion show. All independent designers!
Some items will be available for purchase, prices starting at $35. Plus we’ll have some new Nevermore logo merch dropping as well!
Join us at Nevermore for an exclusive after-hours evening filled with drinks, snacks, and amazing handmade items!
The show runs for the next three weeks so even if you miss opening night, you can still stop by Nevermore during the regular open hours to check it out.

In celebration of their one-year anniversary, our sister store Nevermore Gothic Boutique & Micro Gallery would like to formally invite you to join us this Valentine’s Day for “Sew Your Heart Out,” an evening of hauntingly beautiful fashion that’s sure to steal your heart away!
As part of Nevermore’s mission to support independent artists, makers, and creators in the Richmond, Virginia area and beyond, they wanted to create an event showcasing some truly incredible independent fashion designers—featuring over 50 looks from nine designers, from chainmail to gothic to elegant Lolita, “Sew Your Heart Out ” is sure to be a night to remember!
In addition to the fashion show, you’ll also enjoy FREE N/A drinks & mocktails, FREE hors d’oeuvres & desserts, tyromancy (divination via cheese!), a fashion contest with cash prize, professional red carpet-style photos, plus a chance to meet and mingle with the designers!

“I’m Not Okay”: An Emo Flash Day

It's the first Friday the 13th of the season, and we're celebrating with a very special, very emo, early Valentine's flash day! Time to straighten those bangs, pull on your skinniest jeans, paint your nails black, and relive all your teenage angst with us here at Unkindness Art. Because what's more emo than getting a new tattoo?!

Garden Ink at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden
Join Unkindness Art at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden on Saturday, February 7 from 5-9pm for a tattoo-themed vendor market and seminar talks from local artists, including our very own FaithAnne Butler!
You can find the Unkindness Art merch table in the vendor area, where we’ll have goodies from all of our resident artists available for purchase, or you can just stop by to chat with one of our artists in person about your tattoo ideas!
After you’re done browsing the wares, be sure to listen in on the featured artist seminar talks to learn about flora, fauna, and tattoos! Self-described southern gothic naturalist tattooer FaithAnne Butler will be leading her own talk as part of the evening’s events.
