Nude Figure Drawing: August Session (w/ special avian guest!)
Unkindness Art is pleased to present an ongoing live nude figure drawing series, open to any and all artists (18 and over) who want a space to hone their life drawing skills.
Events take place on the last Wednesday of every month from 8-10pm; our next event will be on Wednesday, August 27 here at Unkindness Art (2923 North Avenue, Richmond VA 23222).
This will be a gestural pose session featuring one human model, and one very special avian guest model—Julian the German Owl Pigeon! Our models will be posing both individually and together. This session would be beneficial for those who want to practice both quick sketches and longer, more finished drawings in a medium of their choice.
Important event rules and info are as follows (PLEASE READ CAREFULLY):
The only way to reserve a spot at this session is to purchase your ticket ahead of time via this page; we do not have guaranteed tickets at the door
Tickets are NONREFUNDABLE; ticket sales go towards paying the session model(s)
You must show current valid photo ID upon arrival (these events are 18+ only!!!!)
The event will start promptly at 8:00 pm and we are not able to allow late entry once the event has started
All attendees will be asked to sign an agreement upon entry abiding by certain privacy and etiquette rules for the safety and security of the models—this includes NO PHONE USAGE AND ABSOLUTELY NO PHOTOS DURING THE EVENT!
We will provide seating for all attendees; attendees will need to provide their own drawing/painting medium, easels if applicable, bring their own iPads, etc.
Light drinks/refreshments will be provided
Although this is a paid job for the model, cash tips are always appreciated!
Space is limited, so be sure to purchase a ticket via this page asap! We look forward to making art with you!
Note: off-street parking is available in the lot behind our building on Brookland Park Blvd (the one with the raven mural!) on a first come, first served basis. If this lot is full, please park on the street rather than in any other private off-street lots or you may be towed!!

“How to Draw Almost Anything”: An Art Seminar
Note: we’re taking a break from our regular monthly life drawing session and doing something a little different in June….
Are you an artist looking to level up your game?? We’ve got a special event just for you: on Wednesday, June 25 our very own resident tattoo artist, Kingsley Van Zandt, will be presenting his “How to Draw Almost Anything” seminar right here at the shop! This lecture is for anyone who’s interested in learning how to use photographic references to make their artwork more realistic, or how to apply knowledge of basic form and anatomy to give shape to their work. You don’t have to draw from memory and hope for the best, OR turn to AI when looking for art references!! Kingsley will teach you how to use references effectively to level up your own artwork.
There will be time for a Q&A session after the formal seminar is over.
This is an all ages event!
We will provide seating. It is highly recommended that attendees bring either a sketchbook or iPad for taking notes and/or drawing along during the seminar.
Seating is limited, so be sure to reserve your spot ahead of time right here on this page! Walk-ins will be accepted on a first come, first served basis if the event does not sell out ahead of time. This event is NONREFUNDABLE, and we are unable to accommodate late entry.
Let’s learn about art together!!!

Pride-ay the 13th Charity Flash Event
Did you know there’s only one Friday the 13th in all of 2025, and it’s during Pride Month?? We’re celebrating with a pride-themed charity flash event, benefiting our friends at TransJam Events and He She Ze and We!

We’ll be donating a portion of all proceeds from tattoos done during this event to these two organizations—our goal amount is to raise at least $4,000 for charity; help us get there by getting a cute new tattoo!

Please note that a $50 deposit is required to pre-book; these deposits are NONREFUNDABLE. If all slots are filled ahead of time, you can take your chances as a walk-in client on the day of the event, but we can’t guarantee a particular artist in that case, sorry! Please note that all artists WILL be able to tattoo all designs!

Nude Figure Drawing Series: Shibari Edition
Unkindness Art is pleased to present an ongoing live nude figure drawing series, open to any and all artists (18 and over) who want a space to hone their life drawing skills. Events take place on the last Wednesday of every month from 8-10pm; our next event will be on Wednesday, May 28 here at Unkindness Art (2923 North Avenue, Richmond VA 23222).
For this month’s event, we will be sketching the process of tying and untying a shibari rope model. We are pleased to be able to put on an exhibition of shibari here at the shop, and this session will include a brief Q&A opportunity for both the rigger and the model at the beginning and end of the session. This session is expected to last about an hour and a half total, with a warm-up and cool-down period. Please note that there will NOT be a mid-session break. Poses will be looser and short-form, so mediums for sketching (pencil, pen, graphite, etc.) are encouraged. We would also encourage attendees to bring pillows if you’d like to sit on the floor, as there is not a raised stage, for visibility and comfort.
While this particular session will be sensual in nature and contains adult/kink-related themes, please remember that these are first and foremost figure drawing events; please only attend if you feel you are comfortable with this kind of performance. We ask that all attendees remain respectful of the model, rigger, other participants, and event organizers at all times. INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AND WILL RESULT IN YOUR REMOVAL FROM THE EVENT AND BEING BANNED FROM ANY FUTURE EVENTS.
PLEASE NOTE: there will be a photographer at this session who will be photographing the performers ONLY.
Space is limited, so be sure to purchase a ticket via this page asap!
Important event rules and info are as follows (PLEASE READ CAREFULLY):
The only way to reserve a spot at this session is to purchase your ticket ahead of time via this page
