“Furry” is a broad term that encompasses anyone who enjoys anthropomorphized animals—in cartoons, comics, movies, literature, and other media—or who enjoys creating such characters of their own! To quote our friends at Anthrocon: “…The average furry fan is cast from the same mold as the science fiction or sword-and-sorcery fan; all of us imagine strange and thrilling worlds and try to picture ourselves living in those worlds.” If this sounds like you, come check out what the furry fandom has to offer!

Furry Tattoo Weekend (FTW) is a two-day event hosted by Unkindness Art, a tattoo shop and event space in Richmond, Virginia, that is home to several furries and furry-appreciators. FTW is not quite a furry convention, nor is it a tattoo convention, but it’s close! It’s a weekend-long celebration of furry art, furry tattoos, and the fandom as a whole. We hope this event will bring together the furry community in Richmond and beyond!

No, this is NOT a ticketed event—there is no general admission fee associated with FTW!
Although you do NOT need a ticket for the Tattoo Flash Day, we highly recommend that you consider pre-booking your tattoo via our website once the designs go live, as we have limited spots available for this event. The tattoos themselves are NOT free; pricing info will be posted at the above-linked page.
You also do NOT need a ticket for the Maker’s Market, or for the “Ne-FUR-More” Art Show; these are both free to enter.
One exception: you WILL need to purchase a ticket at the door for the Saturday night afterparty at Fuzzy Cactus! More details coming soon on the afterparty page.

Yes! We welcome fursuits at FTW.
Please keep in mind that Richmond, even in September, can be quite hot and humid. Unkindness Art is air-conditioned, and we will have a small “headless station” where guests can sit down, remove their suit parts, and drink water.
That being said, please be advised that we cannot provide a secure area for you to deposit your suit. For this reason, if you’re planning to participate in the Tattoo Flash Day event, we recommend wearing partials rather than fullsuits. This will also ensure that tattooers have access to the area of your body where you’d like to get tattooed! Please keep in mind that you will assume any and all risk for your suit being in proximity to biowaste while getting tattooed.

Unkindness Art has a small off-street parking lot right behind the shop on Brookland Park Boulevard (you’ll recognize it by the large raven mural on the building!), but it fills up very quickly and will be partially in use as an outdoor overflow/rest area for this event. If there are no spots available in the lot, there is generally plenty of street parking on either North Avenue, Brookland Park Boulevard, or any of the adjacent residential side streets (just be mindful of any hourly limits!). Please DO NOT park in any other off-street lots, as these are all privately owned and you may be subject to towing!!!
You may wish to consider Uber/Lyft as an option as well.

Richmond is a great city with plenty to do! Here’s a list of some of our favorite restaurants, cafes, bars, and shops for you to peruse. We especially recommend the nearby eateries and shops right here in Richmond’s Brookland Park neighborhood—check out our neighbors Smoky Mug and Auntie Ning’s for delicious food!

We’ve compiled a list of nearby hotels we recommend!
While our immediate neighborhood unfortunately does not have hotels within walking distance, Richmond is a small city—there are many hotels within a short 10-15 minute drive from us.

That’s Mister Unkindness, Unkindness Art’s very own fursona! You can call him “Mister”. He’s a raven-gryphon designed by resident artists Liam Williams and Frankee Graves.
Mister Unkindness is ready to make your furry tat dreams come true—that is, as soon as he figures out how to get gloves over those paws!
